Success can be defined as “the accomplishment of an aim or purpose” or “the fact of getting or achieving wealth, respect, or fame.” There are many ways that we can assess whether we believe someone to be a “success.” Some of the obvious and common indicators include a owning luxury car, wearing designer clothes, living in big house in a gated or exclusive neighborhood, and having an excess of money in the bank. These are material possessions that can and are often used to judge success. In addition, someone’s success is also often tied to their maximizing their efforts and talents in a certain interest, talent and skill, or passion. Once this passion or skill is identified and nurtured, your ability to succeed or obtain success occurs.
The road to success is a long and hard one. There are and will be many obstacles along the way. Your desire to succeed must be stronger and more intense than the temptations to quit and give up when confronted with barriers and setbacks. You have to set your mind to not give up. There will be people, relationships, and situations that you must decide whether or not you will continue to engage with. Even if you are not able to fully separate or detach yourself from certain situations, like your parents, you must be able to minimize the effect of negativity in your life. It will be difficult to not only to set this boundary, but to stand fast in and hold to your decision. Many will likely be angry with you for setting boundaries around your interactions with them. They will not understand or sometimes want to see you separate yourself from them. In fact, it might sometimes confuse you that others will not be “happy” to see you try and make more positive decisions in your life.
So what exactly will help you to remain committed to your change and achieve success? The answer is hope. Hope sustains you when nothing else will. Hope is what allows you to not give up and keep pressing for more when everything else arounds you tells you to do just the opposite. Hope is that belief and desire on the inside of you for better. Hope causes you to remain steady, committed to your dreams and goals, and do whatever work and make the necessary changes you need in order to succeed. Many are of the opinion that Michael Jordan is perhaps the greatest basketball player ever to play the sport. But how exactly did Mr. Jordan go from being cut from the varsity basketball team in his sophomore year of high school to being a living legend? An unmatched work ethic and belief that he would and could succeed would not allow him to abandon his dreams. These things also enabled Michael Jordan to excel in that which he set his mind to. Remember, don’t allow your temporary setbacks to become permanent stops along your journey.
Stay focused, remain encouraged, and keep striving…..
